In the heat of the moment it is hard to think before you speak.. trust me! When dealing with someone who is experiencing problems with a mental illness you wonder why? why them? why are you left to deal with it? and most of all 'WHAT'S WRONG?!' I know it's hard but just by rephrasing your words from, what's wrong?! to 'How can I help you?' makes a huge difference! They don't know what is wrong and that is probably the scariest part for them, and they might not even know how you can help but by asking them how you can help can seem less dramatic and it let's them know that you really care and want to help them.
